Pret a Manger, Carnaby Street

November 9, 2006

The second entry for Standinaqueue Day comes from the splendid Mr Scamp.

He reports on a lunchtime queue in the heart of our nation’s capital:

This is a very busy branch and the queuing is always undisciplined, the Soho media types who use it are ever-alert for a possible queue switch, that might get them their sandwich 20 seconds faster.

It wasn’t that busy when I went in today, because I had missed the lunchtime rush. But you can still see a beautifully tentative body posture exhibited here. Which till will become available first? It’s an uncertainty, and we humans don’t like uncertainties.

I’m sorry the photos aren’t very good, so here is a bonus picture of the Regent St. Christmas lights.

City View Cafe, Sheffield

November 9, 2006

Our first entry for Standinaqueue Day is from our dear Anna in Sheffield.

Despite claiming to not being technologically minded enough to contribute to a blog, she has managed to send her entry via a combination of email and sms.

She writes:

Here’s a queue in City View Cafe at the Union. Not exciting at all, but very quick.

Speaking of queues, me and Tess went to the Showroom last night to watch Fucking Sheffield (a documentary about junkies and prostitutes) and as we just got in the queue, a member of staff shouted “Fucking Sheffield has just sold out!”.

In all my Showroom going time, I don’t think any film I’ve ever been to see has sold out. Especially not on a Wednesday night. How annoying is that?

Happy Standinaqueue Day!

Love Anna

Standinaqueue on Standinaqueue Day

November 3, 2006

For those of you who don’t already know, November 9th is Standinaqueue Day.

Standinaqueue Day is an exciting opportunity for you to join in a mass blog at Standinaqueue. We want as many people as possible from around the world to record the time they have spent standing in a queue on Thursday November 9th.

It can be a queue for the bus, a pension or even a bag of crisps. Here at Standinaqueue no queue is too big or too small to talk about.

Send your queue story from November 9th, plus pics if possible (as attachments) to standinaqueue@gmail.com by November 13th, and then all queues will be posted up for all to see.

If, like me, the internet causes you to have short term memory loss and you fear that you may forget this important date, then drop me an email titled “Standinaqueue Day” and I will email you a reminder on the morning of the 9th.

This will truly be a momentous occasion so don’t forget to tell all your family and friends that they too can queue and make history.

The content of any posts on Standinaqueue Day does not reflect the views of standinaqueue. Such content only reflects the views and comments of the named persons who write the individual posts.
