Tesco’s on Infirmary Road, Sheffield

August 13, 2006

There was an advertising campaign some time back which stated that if there were more than two people waiting, Tesco’s would open up another checkout. I now always feel a small wave of frustration whenever I see a queue of three or more people, and hope that there’s a stressed store manager somewhere whose job is on the line for not delivering this promise.

Today the frustration was raised a notch by this lady who actually said yes when asked if she would like help with her packing. Before now, I’ve only seen the elderly accept this offer, and even then they manage most of their packing themselves. This lady however, didn’t actually pack any of her stuff, which meant that the cashier took twice as long to scan and pack. The queue grew to six people and yet there was still no sign of the store manager.

Get a life! Chill out – it’s only a supermarket! So what if it takes a further 10 or 15 minutes? You’ll lose more than that stressing yourself to an early grave!
